COUNCILLOR ANNE McNAIR Anne McNair is the councillor for Bishopbriggs North and Torrance. She lives in the ward and works in Glasgow as a graphic designer for the local authority. Anne is a branch officer and Trade Union activist within the public services union UNISON. She is also Convenor of the local SNP Branch. Anne has criticised much of what is happening under the current East Dunbartonshire Council's leadership. The use of private finance through PPP is now a thoroughly discredited method of financing major public projects, yet the council has embarked on a new schools building programme using this method. Equally the new Low Moss Prison raises fears that it could become a privately-run prison similar to heavily criticised Kilmarnock Prison. Within Bishopbriggs North, the retail park
has been substantially refurbished, yet vacant units remain. Anne
is concerned that members of the council from outwith Bishopbriggs
are influencing decisions affecting the interests of the people
in Bishopbriggs. You can contact Anne McNair here: CONTACT |

COUNCILLOR DAVID RITCHIE David Ritchie is the councillor for Campsie and Kirkintilloch North. He is married with two young children, lives in the East Dunbartonshire area and has worked in public relations for a number of years. David is committed to representing the public's views and he guarantees to make sure that the community's voice is heard in the Council Chambers, something which he feels was sadly lacking under the previous Liberal Democrat administration. He is also worried about the lack of concern shown for issues particular to our rural areas and villages, and keen to promote all positive aspects of those communities to ensure the protection of the countryside and the maintenance of the rural public services. He holds surgeries on a regular basis
across the whole of the ward, and he will visit elderly or disabled
constituents at home if they are unable to attend his surgeries. You can contact David Ritchie here: CONTACT |

COUNCILLOR GILLIAN RENWICK Gillian Renwick is the SNP's councillor for the Lenzie and South Kirkintilloch ward. She has been the Convenor of Kirkintilloch SNP, and a finance assistant with a major rail company. She volunteers with a local charity for the visually impaired and has always lived in East Dunbartonshire. Gillian says, "I live in Oxgang, and I want to see better roads and a more efficient refuse service. East Dunbartonshire Council has to be held to account for failing on services. Each year we pay our ever-increasing council tax, and year on year there are cuts in services and a poor return for our hard-earned money. “Whether it's taking the long route to avoid road works or bad junctions, repairing damage done by potholes, or taking your own rubbish to the dump - it's the taxpayer who is inconvenienced." You can contact Gillian Renwick here: CONTACT |

COUNCILLOR GORDAN LOW Dr. Gordan Low is the councillor for Bishopbriggs South, has lived in the ward all his life, and been active in local community politics since 1988. He has been a lecturer at Heriot-Watt University, has a Ph.D. in Mathematics, and is currently a freelance software engineer. He joined Bishopbriggs Community Council in 1999, serving as its Planning Convenor for the last four years. He represented the Community Council at the Low Moss Prison Public Inquiry in May 2006, and the Public Hearing on the Bishopbriggs Academy planning application in January 2007. Gordan believes that the
political leadership of East Dunbartonshire Council has failed the community
of Bishopbriggs. Selling out over the funding package for the Bishopbriggs
Relief Road and sacrificing the interests of local residents for the
sake of private housing are just two examples. Gordan is committed to
restoring meaningful community representation to the decision-making
process. You can contact Gordan Low here: CONTACT |

COUNCILLOR GRAEME DOUGLAS Dr. Graeme Douglas is the councillor for Bearsden South. He is married with a three year old son and lives in the ward. Having worked in a business environment for several multi-national companies, he is now a director of an electronic recycling company which he founded. He joined the SNP because he believes that only with the powers of Independence can Scotland tackle its problems fully. Graeme is totally against the use of PFI for financing capital projects, offering the alternative "not-for-profit" trusts. The Audit Commission estimated that using PFI was at least 6% more expensive. He thinks that if this additional £6 million had been available to East Dunbartonshire, then Boclair Academy could have benefited, and there would be no issue with the lack of sports facilities at Bearsden Academy. Graeme is working to ensure the best future for
everyone in this ward. You can contact Graeme Douglas here: CONTACT |

COUNCILLOR IAN MACKAY Ian Mackay is the councillor for Bearsden North. He is a surveyor, and has served previously as a councillor on Strathclyde Regional and Renfrewshire Councils. Ian lives in the ward and his youngest son attends the local primary school. He strives to improve all-weather and indoor play and sports facilities in Bearsden. East Dunbartonshire has the second worst facilities in Scotland, a shameful situation, when we are all trying to encourage children to take more exercise. In addition, he ensures that
the public's voice is heard and acted upon in council decisions, particularly
in planning decisions, something he has experience of in previous councils.
All too often, the council rides roughshod over public opinion and Ian
has vowed to fight this disgraceful practice and make the council accountable
to the people it represents. You can contact Ian Mackay here: CONTACT |

COUNCILLOR JIM GIBBONS Jim Gibbons is the councillor for Milngavie. He is married with four sons and lives locally. He graduated in computing from Strathclyde University and runs his own driving school in Milngavie. Jim has been on a Parent Teacher Association Committee, Convenor of Milngavie SNP, and a member of Milngavie Community Council. He gives the people of Milngavie a voice on the Council. He is particularly concerned
about the continual invasion of our green belt. Local communities should
be able to resist over-development and be able to enjoy open spaces
within our towns. Many people have expressed concern about what is happening
around them, but they feel that the Council just goes ahead and does
it anyway. One example of this is the forcing of residents into a fortnightly
bin cycle despite public feeling. You can contact Jim Gibbons here: CONTACT |

COUNCILLOR JOHN JAMIESON John Jamieson is the Kirkintilloch East and Twechar councillor. He has worked as an accountant in local government for over 30 years, and is married to Yvonne. They have a student son and a daughter who attends the local high school.
